1. Keep a running grocery list of products your family uses most often.
2. Compare local store circulars to see who offers the products you want at the best price, and mark it on your master shopping list. For example, if you family drinks organic milk watch the circulars to see who offers organic milk specials, and use your organic milk coupon that you printed online for an even larger savings.
3. Become familiar with the stores "Organic Brand". Most of the time the store organic brand is less expensive then the name brand organic. On average 25% less, partly because stores save on the heavy product development and promotion costs. (according to Willard Bishop a food retail consulting firm)
4. Use bonus card programs. Many grocery stores use a free discount card program that gives members discounts, two for one sales and/or reward points towards future purchases.
5. Find out what the coupon policy is for the stores in your area and only shop on the double or triple coupon days.
6. Stock up on basics and non-perishables when you can get them for a really good deal. Then when they are marked higher it's not such a big deal since you already have some extra in the pantry.
7. Plan your meals each week around what you have already stocked up and what is on sale. Not necessarily around what sounds "good" the day you make the shopping list.
8. If you buy frozen organic foods, research to see if any of your local stores offer "frozen" deals. In our area once a week the local store offers a 10% discount on frozen foods. They even have brown paper bags in the frozen food isle with 10% off to make shopping easier.
In short-Look to see what you have on stock and plan your menu and shopping around the extras that you need to make the meals happen. Once you have your grocery list, shop at the pre-determined stores for the organic food products. (Keep in mind that you can run into pick up a few items while you are out running other errands, to save on gas.) In addition to using your organic food coupons, consider buying the organic store brands, using the stores bonus cards, shop on double or triple coupon days and stocking up on frozen foods on the discount day.
