Grocery shopping can be fun and affordable if you have a plan of action. I use a pre-printed organic food "master" grocery list. Every so often I print more grocery lists and keep them on a clip board next to the refrigerator so anyone in my family can make a note on the list when we run out of something or if they have something they need me to buy at the grocery store. Since I shop only once a week when other errands are planned, working from a list is essential. Below is my list, you can download and use it as it is or adapt it to the needs of your family.

Step 1. Either on a computer or by hand make up a master list of organic foods and type a line or leave a space after each so you can check off when the item has been purchased.
Step 2. Common categories to include on your organic food grocery list: Organic Produce, Organic Vegetables, Organic Meat & Fish, Organic Dairy, Organic Frozen, Organic Dry Goods, Organic Grains, Organic Canned, Organic Snacks and Beverages, Organic Baked Goods, Organic Baking, and Organic Household.
Step 3. Consider adding specific products you buy a lot under each major category so you can simply mark off those items quickly.

Step 4. Consider leaving making an abbreviation for the stores you usually shop.
Then when an organic food item on your list is on sale in a stores weekly flyers
you can make a note to buy it at that store.
Step 5. Make a column on your list for "Other" or "Don't Forgets". This is where I have my kids write what the "need" on the list. I like for them to mark it in one place so I can decide if we really need that item or not.
